He whose chariot was drawn by wild beasts
could not sail because of a persistent calm

His children met him by the water, where
a goddess had arranged they would be drowned

One tradition holds it was the hero who persuaded
the warriors to hand over the bodies of the dead

While another says this hero fled the city, and a king
had to reclaim the dead bodies by force

To avenge the stoning of his son
an old man spent his last years spreading lies

He said that soldiers were returning with concubines from war
to take the beds of the legitimate wives:
